Community Ministries

Counseling – Eleanor Bailey

The main focus of the counseling ministry is freedom in all area of our walk with God. This includes discipleship as well as personal counseling. Although there was no formal counseling team as has been active in the past, the discipleship ministries of small groups was very much alive and well. Trained counselors continued to work with individuals and families upon request. The Celebrate Recovery ministry is also seeing people getting free of addictions, hang-ups, and habits.

Counseling in the areas of family, financial, and personal is available on request and people are referred to the best counselor for the situation. Anyone with a desire to learn to discipleship others or become a part of the counseling ministry should contact Eleanor Bailey or call the church office.

Celebrate Recovery - Walt Holland

During 2009 there were about 10 members from our church and an equal number from the San Rafael Open Door Church that participated in Celebrate Recovery and Life’s healing choices meetings which were held at the offices of the San Rafael church. The Celebrate Recovery Program is based on eight principles from the Beatitudes in Matthew 5. This program has a detailed plan that when followed empowers churches to quickly begin helping those in their churches and communities who are struggling with a hurt, habit or hang-up. The Life’s Healing Choices program is like an updating of the other with a revised workbook and DVD’s for teaching each of the 8 sessions. In addition it has a book Life’s Healing Choices, which backs up the workbook and contains testimonies illustrating instances where teachings in the workbook were used for assisting people in their recoveries.

Convalescent Ministry – Jeff Young

On the first Sunday of every month, a group of us gather together at Country Villa to worship and share God’s love and goodness with the friends that we have made over the years. Singing is always enjoyed. The songs often bring back fond memories, and always assist people to connect and be reminded of the Hope that is in Christ and Christ alone.

There is always time for visiting and sharing. All in all a good time is had in the Lord.

DVD Outreach Ministry – Andy Lewis

A combined church ministry with Tabernaculo de David, run by Saul in partnership with Andy.

First of all, this ministry would not have been possible without God's guidance and our growing relationship with our Hispanic brothers. The goals are purely spiritual and include recording each service for our members who are ill or shut-in by maintaining a 1-month supply of current services in the ODCC library for checkout, evangelizing to the community through public television broadcast, making services available on the church website. Eventually we'd like to air the services on KTLN, and we're looking into the possibility of providing them to the believers on Death Row as well. As for the structure of the DVD recordings on the air, I am in the process of getting the individuals qualified for developing an intro for the DVD, and possibly making an ad which uses the same intro to create better recognition. I've also looked into airing the sermons on some radio stations, and am considering providing DVD's of both church services to interested rest homes. Lastly, it is worth mentioning that the camera man and Saul have been donating their time and talents weekly on our behalf for the glory of God and deserve our great thanks! Developing a trained recording crew would relieve them by sharing the responsibilities, and is under consideration. As far as the future is concerned, the sky's the limit! We've seen how others have used this ministry, and it can be a powerful tool of evangelism through introducing and/or continuing an individual's growth with Christ.
